Vanessa Handy is an award-winning audio maker and journalist based in Brooklyn, NY. She is well-experienced in crafting stories about  race, culture, the arts, and identity.
Currently, she's an Associate Producer at Wonder Media Network, where she works on shows like Womanica, UNDISTRACTED, Science Will Win, and The Brown Girls Guide to PoliticsShe is also part of the Association of Independents in Radio's (AIR) New Voices program for 2024. She has bylines in New York Amsterdam News, NPR Music, and Huffington Post.
Previously, she has produced and hosted content for shows like the ACLU's At LibertyWNYC's Notes from America,  NPR's Life Kit, where her work won a 2023 Gracie Awardand GBH's Under the Radar with Callie CrossleyShe also wrote newsletters and ran the Diverse Sources Database for NPR's Training Team, and taught media literacy for Poynter's MediaWise initiative. She was a 2022 Emma Bowen Foundation fellow.
Vanessa holds a bachelor's degree in media, culture, and communication from New York University.
Outside of work, she's passionate about her most famous Spotify playlist, the end of capitalism, the internet in the year 2014, and eating dessert before dinner.
